The host of “The Dr Oz Show”, Dr. Mehmet Oz, was born in the U.S. to Turkish parents and was raised in Turkey.

Dr. Oz shared on a number of occasions that he has at times had difficulties understanding and coming to terms with religion, and has found interest in an Islamic sect Sufi and a Protestant group.

Dr. Oz, who is also a professor at Columbia University, explained that his parents had very different views on Islam, which essentially confused him and led to his struggles with a Muslim identity.

The celebrated host also said that the spiritual aspect, rather than the social or historical aspects, attracts him the most when it comes to religion in general.
