Mos Def is one of the rare people on our list who started studying Islam as a teenager and converted at a tender age of 19.

The famous rapper is one of a few figures who had a clear message on Islam when he burst onto the scene in 1999.

His father was an active member of the Nation of Islam and influenced his son to follow in his footsteps.

Mos Def, born Dante Smith, revealed he was first introduced to Islam at 13, when his father taught him how to make wudhu, a ritual Muslims perform before a prayer, and the rapper has been practicing the religion ever since.
