10. Dave Chappelle

Dave Chappelle, a famous comedian and stand-up artist, identifies as Muslim but usually doesn’t publically speak about his views on Islam as he doesn’t want anyone to associate his flaws with “this beautiful thing”, as he calls it.

Chappelle converted to Islam in 1998 after being raised as Unitarian Universalist thanks to his mother being the first ever ordained minister of Unitarian Universalism.

On the other hand, Chappelle’s brother was a member of the Nation of Islam, which is likely what prompted the then 25-year-old Chappelle to become Muslim.

As the comedian is very withdrawn about this, the little details ever released into the press were that Chappelle uses his religious beliefs to “check his intensions” and be “well balanced”.
