The two dated back in their time, from 1984 until 1991 to be more precise, and now it seems that the Iron Man actor is looking to catch up with his ex-girlfriend and maybe rekindle some old flames.

However, Downey definitely wants to be on the safe side, so he says he will only get in touch with Sarah Jessica Parker if her husband Matthew Broderick gives him the permission. Smart move, we must admit.

“I’ll make a point of trying to see her while I’m here. I’d like to. I’ll ask her husband’s permission. I just want to check in for a few minutes. I love Matthew Broderick,” said Robert while speaking on Howard Stern’s radio show.

Teenage Romance

Sarah Jessica Parker and Robert Downey Jr were together for seven years when they were only teenagers. They met on the set of the movie “Firstborn” (1984), however, the relationship ended when Robert started battling his addictions.

The Iron Man was asked if SJP maybe broke his heart when she left him 23 years ago, and Robert said that he wasn’t quite sure what was going on back then since they were really young.

“I’ve never been the kind of person to acknowledge what’s going on with me at the time, and I’d try to make light of it, but sure, when you’re with someone for seven years, 18 to our mid-20s, it’s kind of a big deal.”

Robert also stated during the interview that if Sarah and him were to meet, their spouses would be there as well. He even went as far as to invite talk show host Howard along to the big reunion.

“I’d love to have Matthew there. I’ll bring Susan. Would you mind coming just to kind of mediate the whole thing? It would be a natural extension seeing as you’re a part of the conversation,” joked Robert.
