Ricky Martin, 42, who came out himself four years ago, said he was extremely proud of Ian and praised his decision emphasizing he will help many youngsters who are afraid and struggle with their identity.
“I’ll say it now, and I’ve said it on many occasions. There are millions of little boys and girls around the world struggling with their sexual identity. It is great to have someone as powerful as him, and as successful as him saying that it is OK to be who you are, and be happy. Kudos, Ian, I’m very proud of you,” the singer said.
“Some people die without being able to accept themselves. It took me 35 years,” Martin sincerely admitted.
Besides giving the utter support to Thorpe in his newly found freedom, Martin is also the mentor of Jackson Thomas, who will compete in “The Voice” grand finale.
Thomas said Ricky was a great inspiration and a teacher. “Ricky taught me not to sit back and expect it to happen. He taught me to bring the audience in, tell them a secret, tell them a story.”
