Shia is going through some tough times lately. First he showed up at a premiere wearing a paper bag on his head with the words ‘I Am Not Famous Any More’ written on it, then he chased a homeless person, got arrested and charged for disrupting a Broadway performance of Cabaret after being dragged out from the theatre yelling obscenities.
However, he seems to have gained a friend from all these ludicrous situations he got himself into.
They seem to have bonded together like true brothers in need.
Gibson got in touch with the young actor because he could see he was suffering, and since he’s been there himself, he’s competent enough to give Shia a few pieces of advice.
“When I see someone like Shia LaBeouf with the bag on his head and stuff, my heart goes out to the poor guy,” Mel stated for the “Indiewire” at the Karlovy Vary Film Festival, while collecting his lifetime achievement award.
“He’s suffering in some way. Why would he do that? People are in line to sort of point the finger at him and say that he’s this, that, or the other. It’s easy to judge,” Gibson continued.
“But I’m sure he’s going through some kind of personal, very painful, cathartic thing that he has to exorcise and get out there. And he’ll probably play it out and come back… He’ll be all right. I actually like the kid. I think he’s good.”
Who knows, maybe Mel and Shia become really good friends and maybe even some collaboration is in prospect. “The Passion of Shia LaBeouf” – sounds good to me.
