The Titanic star Leonardo DiCaprio says he has seen the environmental devastation of the ocean firsthand and has pledged “as a concerned citizen of this planet” to raise awareness as much as possible.
In this generous gesture the star has pledged $7million to marine conservation efforts to help protect the world’s oceans.
During his speech at a US State Department conference called “Our Ocean” in Washington, D.C., Leonardo reminded us about the condition our planet is in at the moment and urged global leaders to take action as well.
“This isn’t simply an exercise in wildlife conservation. If we don’t do something to save the ocean now, it won’t be just the sharks and the dolphins that suffer. It will be our children and our grandchildren,” said the actor at the conference.
In addition to a $3million grant that his charity “The Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation” had already made to the sea wildlife charity “Oceana” back in February, he is making another donation of $7million to help conserve the oceans.
“Today, I’m here to commit even more of my foundation’s resources to this cause. I’m pledging an additional $7million to meaningful ocean conservation projects over the next two years,” he added.
He may have played a ruthless money mogul in “The Wolf of Wall Street”, but Leonardo has shown he is all heart when it comes to caring for our planet.
