The actress has publicly spoken about the loss of her half-sister via “Entertainment Tonight.” In a statement Drew said: “Although I only met her briefly, I wish her and her loved ones as much peace as possible and I’m so incredibly sorry for their loss.”

What happened exactly?

A 47-year-old Jane Doe was found unresponsive in a car in National City, San Diego on Tuesday morning and the woman’s identity was later confirmed as Jessica Barrymore. National City police haven’t yet confirmed the cause of death.

Who was she?

Drew and deceased Jessica shared the same father, actor John Barrymore. Jessica’s mother is a former actress Nina Wayne, who was John’s fourth wife. They married after John divorced Drew’s mother, Jaid Mako.

The lost connection

Drew wasn’t that close with her extended family. She has recently spoken about her feelings towards her mother.

My relationship with my mom is so complicated. I’ve always been empathetic toward my mom, and I was even more so when I had a kid and we had a really amazing conversation about it,” she stated for Marie Claire magazine.

“However, it hasn’t enabled me to lessen the distance. It’s the hardest subject in my life. I’ve never just been angry with her. I’ve always felt guilt and empathy and utter sensitivity. But we can’t really be in each other’s lives at this point,” Drew continued.

The actress had a bit of a troubled childhood, as she checked into rehab when she was only 13. However, the new family and marriage with Will Kopelman gave Drew a different and much more positive perspective of how a family should work.

“I didn’t think I would ever get to experience that. This is so safe and positive and healthy because they have their values intact. It was huge for me. And that’s what I want for my family.”
