9. Matthew Broderick: Walter White in Breaking Bad

There are roles that go on to become successful TV characters, and then there are roles that become pure masterpieces.

Walter White is one of the best hero/villains in television history, and you have to wonder if Matthew Broderick wishes he had a time machine so that he could go back in time and take on the lead role in “Breaking Bad.”

When audiences first discovered that Bryan Cranston, Malcolm’s dad from “Malcolm in the Middle”, had been given the role, many people wondered at the choice of casting.

However, history has shown us that the casting director on “Breaking Bad” made one of the best decisions in TV history. The show’s creator Vince Gilligan wanted actor Bryan Cranston from the very start.

Studio executives were not so keen on the idea as they had only seen Cranston as the hapless dad in “Malcom in the Middle.”  After watching a tape of Cranston performing in an episode of “The X Files”, the executives finally came around. The series is regarded as the greatest TV show of all time and with very good reason.
