6. Sandra Bernhard: Miranda Hobbes in Sex and the City
Bernhard told Andy Cohen that the script she read for the pilot was a “disaster,” and the money she was offered wasn’t anywhere near what she had been making on “Roseanne” just a few years earlier.
The actress insists that she has no regrets about giving up the role to Cynthia Nixon, although she says she would have taken the part if she’d known the show would be so successful.
The strong, independent character of Miranda in “Sex and the City” was the perfect antidote to the flaky and sometimes whiny character of Carrie portrayed by Sarah Jessica Parker.
Cynthia Nixon played the role to perfection and managed to blend the perfect amount of feistiness and sensitivity which made the character so likable.

Casting Sandra Bernhard in the role would have led to a very different dynamic between the characters as Bernhard is known for her outspokenness which often attracts controversy. Her stand-up show usually consists of scathing indictments of the US political system and celebrity culture peppered with plenty of colourful language designed to shock the audience.
