It’s not easy growing up with the constant attention of the media and, basically, the whole world. No one understands that better than the talented 17-year-old actress Ariel Winter.

The Modern Family star revealed in a recent interview that she underwent a breast reduction surgery in the beginning of June this year.

After enduring with comments and criticism about the way she looks for years, Winter decided she had enough. Although everyone agreed that she’s a beautiful young lady, they didn’t like her image – she always dressed more mature.

However, her style was not her choice, as the young actress had to wear form-fitted and super-tight dresses due to her 32F sized breasts. The actress explained: “I didn’t really have an option other than to wear fitted clothes. Everyone would say, ‘Why is she dressing so mature? That’s so inappropriate for her age!’ I understood what they were saying. It’s not like I wanted to pick out those inappropriate dresses, it’s just that I didn’t really have another choice, or I was going to get ridiculed.”

The surgery wasn’t a looks-only choice. Winter admitted she was feeling physical pain because the F-cup was too much for her body to handle, and two years of pain was more than enough for her. “It really did happen overnight,” Winter said, “I was 15-years-old with size F breasts. It’s like, ‘how do you navigate that? I definitely seemed confident; I’m an actress, that’s what we do. But on the inside, I wasn’t feeling so happy.”

However, the Modern Family actress stated that she didn’t get the reduction to please the critical opinion of millions of people – she got it for herself.

Among her on-screen family, Julie Bowen was the only one who knew about the surgery: “She was really supportive and understanding. I just saw Sofia Vergara the other day and she was like, ‘Oh my God! I love them! They’re great!’ I was like, ‘This is hilarious.’”

Winter’s real-life mom, Chrystal Workman, doesn’t know about the surgery. “She and I don’t speak. She will find out by reading it and that’s the way that is. And that’s fine. I’m in such a happy place now, and in such a better place now surrounded by people who love me and really support me, and that’s all I need.” Ariel’s older sister, Shanelle Gray, was named her legal guardian after a court hearing this spring.
