8. Magic Johnson
Johnson was a point guard for the Los Angeles Lakers when he made headlines around the world after announcing he had contracted the HIV virus in November of that year.
The world was stunned at the announcement as it was believed back then that HIV and AIDS were exclusively gay-related. Johnson soon retired from playing professional basketball and has since become a very successful businessman and HIV activist.
In an interview in 2014, Johnson explained that he has about 30 different types of drugs at his disposal, same as everyone else, and that he takes a cocktail of three of them every day. The virus hasn’t become active in the 23 years he’s had it, and he feels very fortunate he has lived so long with it.

It is uncertain if the virus will ever get activated, but so far, Johnson has never been hospitalized with an HIV-related illness.
