Halle Berry And Olivier Martinez have announced their plans to divorce after just two years of marriage.
“It is with a heavy heart that we have come to the decision to divorce. We move forward with love and respect for one another and the shared focus of what is best for our son. We wish each other nothing but happiness in life and we hope that you respect our and, most importantly, our children’s privacy as we go through this difficult period.”
The couple have a two-year-old son Maceo, and Martinez, who filed for divorce on Tuesday citing “irreconcilable differences”, asked for joint custody.
Halle and Olivier had a prenuptial agreement in place and an agreement on equally sharing the cost of raising their boy.
There are no clear indications as to why Berry and Martinez have decided to dissolve their marriage although their relationship was characterized by a few incidents that involved physical altercations. Last week the pair were sued by an LAX airport staff member after Martinez allegedly hit him with a baby car seat. Let’s not forget the Thanksgiving 2012 incident in which Martinez got into a nasty fight with Berry’s ex, Gabriel Aubry, who came to drop off their daughter Nahla at Berry and Martinez’s home.
This will be the third divorce for Berry, who vowed never to marry again after her second divorce.
