Well, this escalated quickly. WHO says that old rockers can’t diss? The Who’s Pete Townshend and Roger Daltrey took one of Kanye West’s numerous “I’m the best” claims as a cause to start a shade war.

During his performance at Glastonbury festival (which was a night before The Who’s performance) the famed rapper declared himself “the biggest living rock star on the planet,” and the old rockers didn’t really like his newest title.

During one of his rants with the crowd, West decided it was the right time to express just how awesome he is, with the words: “I’m going to say this tonight because 20 years from now, 30 years from now, 40 years from now, I might not be able to say it, but I can say it tonight….You are now watching the greatest living rock star on the planet.”

It’s fair to say that Townshend and Daltry don’t share West’s views on himself, so they decided that their Glastonbury concert was a good occasion as any to set the whole thing straight. Near the end of their headline performance, the 60’s gods of rock looked at the crowds and said: “We’re going to send you home now with a rebellious, ‘Oh yeah, who’s the biggest rock star in the world?,” right before Townshend did one of his amazing guitar solos.

Will this 60’s rock vs. new age rap beef continue remains to be seen. But we can surely count on one thing: Kanye will definitely have something to say, in a long, tiresome rant about himself.
