Well, so much for that. A-list actors Charlize Theron and Sean Penn have officially broken up after nearly a year and a half together. This disappointing news was confirmed by multiples sources close to the famous former pair. But who broke it off? According to those same sources, the beautiful South African actress was the one to shut the relationship down.

The 39-year-old actress and the 54-year-old actor have known each other for decades and were close friends until they realized they were made for one another. They started dating in December 2013, and got secretly engaged a year into their relationship, during a trip to Paris.

According to insiders, the ex-lovers decided their relationship was over a couple of days after the Cannes film festival.

The reasons behind the breakup have not yet been revealed, but rumors are circulating that Penn was at it again with his adulterous shenanigans. That could explain why Theron, who had been saying that Sean is “the love of her life,” called it off.

The stunning Oscar winner had previously been in serious relationships with Craig Bierko and Stuart Townsend. The notorious womanizer, and also an Oscar winner, Penn had been married twice before, to international superstar Madonna (from 1985 to 1989) and House Of Cards actress Robin Wright (from 1996 to 2010). He has two grown kids, Dylan and Hopper, with Wright.
