The Oscar winner’s representatives confirmed the news, stating that the famous performer has had enough with her substance abuse, and is seeking help:
“Liza Minnelli has valiantly battled substance abuse over the years and whenever she has needed to seek treatment she has done so. She is currently making excellent progress at an undisclosed facility.” According to her representatives, Minnelli is making “excellent progress.”
Minnelli checked herself into a Malibu facility several days ago and is being treated mainly for alcohol abuse. This is not the first time that Minnelli has sought treatment in rehab multiple times. She last sought treatment in 2004 and in 2010.
The Cabaret star also turned down $500,000 to appear on VH1’s Celebrity Rehab, and at the time, her representatives issued a statement, saying: “Liza Minnelli…is not now, nor will ever be, on Celebrity Rehab.”
Judy Garland, Liza Minnelli’s legendary mother, died at the age of 47 in 1969, after overdosing.
