The two theaters that confirmed they will be showing the film are The Alamo Drafthouse, an independent movie theatre from Austin, Texas, and the Plaza theatre chain from Georgia. Sony will release the film on video-on-demand as well.
Five of the biggest chains announced they wouldn’t show the movie so Sony decided to cancel the release last Wednesday.
Last week Tuesday, a group of cyber attackers who have allegedly targeted Sony issued a statement containing a threat of terrorist attacks if theatres showed the movie. President Obama, who has openly citied Sony for backing out welcomed their latest decision.
The limited release must be a far cry from the expected bang that Seth Rogen, producer and lead actor, had hoped for, but he still tweeted, ”The people have spoken! Freedom has prevailed! Sony didn’t give up!” after Sony announced the film’s release.
