9. Leighton Meester Was Born in Prison

Leighton Meester’s mother was in prison for drug smuggling while she was pregnant with Leighton.

She gave birth in a hospital, where she was allowed to stay for a short while with her newborn baby, but afterwards returned to prison to serve the rest of her 10-year sentence.

Leighton Meester was raised by her grandmother, and claims her parents gave her as normal an upbringing as possible given their criminal past.

Meester ascertains they were smart and good people, and the unusual circumstances of her childhood made her more open-minded and less judgemental.

The actress/singer’s mother is now a writer and her father works for an internet company, so apparently they were able to turn their lives around, proving that people can definitely change.
