9. Senator Ted Kennedy
However, he might have served some other type of years, since he was responsible for the death of a young woman back in 1969.
Namely, on the night of July 18th, 1969, Senator left a party on Chappaquiddick Island, Massachusetts with 28-year-old Mary Jo Kopechne.
During the drive, Kennedy took a wrong turn down a dirt road and drove off the Dike Bridge. They ended up in the river with his car upside-down in the water. While Kennedy managed to swim to safety, Mary never emerged from the car. Kennedy didn’t notify the police, and when Mary’s body was found the next morning, he turned himself in, claiming that he’d been in the state of shock.
Kennedy later pleaded guilty to leaving the scene of an accident, but no other charges were filed, however, the scandal surrounding the accident, and the fact that the married Kennedy was alone at night with a young woman effectively ended his aspirations of running for President.
