2. O.J. Simpson
So, what happened? Back in 1994, Nicole Brown Simpson, O.J. Simpson’s ex-wife, was stabbed to death outside her home in Los Angeles home, along with her friend Ronald Goldman.
The former football player was arrested, but after one of the most hyped up trials in history, Simpson was eventually found not guilty of murder, even though many of the evidence-collecting techniques of the prosecution were called into question during the process.
However, three years later, during a civil trial, O.J. was found guilty for the two deaths, and the Goldmans were awarded $8.5 million in compensatory damages, while each family was awarded $12.5 million in punitive damages.
