The Golden Globes are a bit edgy and hip. The Globes are less interested in history and more interested in what the audience wants today. This has been demonstrated through the use of hosts like Ricky Gervais, Tina Fey and Amy Poehler.

This is huge, particularly for those who work in television. It is a tremendous social occasion and gives actors in each genre to show their stuff. It’s not the Oscars or the Emmy’s… it’s both… it’s a party!

Many celebrities relate to their days of struggling as actors. The Globes offer a chance of catching lighting in a bottle for newcomers and veterans seem to appreciate that.

The Hollywood Foreign Press Association makes donations in the millions of dollars to movie entertainment and film related charities. Many of those in the industry enjoy the fact that this particular awards ceremony benefits those who have spent careers in the business. It also helps young people who can use scholarships provided to get into the business.

Scandals and rumors of scandals (like lobbying for votes and paying off voters with cash or gifts and even a major network’s role in those scandals) have led to a bit of a bad-boy image. Oddly, this seems to have worked in the Globes favor.

It has been said the Globes are for those who like to entertain, and the Oscars may be for those who like to think. Actors and actresses? They are all about entertaining.

Votes for the Golden Globes are cast by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, made up of members of press from around the world. It is the third most popular awards show worldwide behind the Oscars and the Grammys.
11. It’s Not the End of The Road
Actors know that the Oscars and Emmy’s will follow. Those that win accept the award and hope the momentum carries on. Those that don’t win know the other awards are just around the corner.

Yep, even during the show itself, those in attendance are partying away, drinking as if watching a sporting event. This can sometimes be all too obvious to viewers. It is also a reason celebrities like it so much!
