4. Perfect Stranger (2007)
The movie takes several twists and turns, only to end with the protagonist being outed as the killer. The twists and turns in the movie are interesting and surprising, but the ending leaves a lot to be desired.
The ending isn’t bad. At least it makes sense. In fact, the ending could have been really good.
The problem with it is that the audience is left in the dark throughout the entire movie and never given a single hint that the protagonist is really the killer.
You should always give the audience enough information to figure the mystery out. Even if they don’t, they still ought to be able to look back through the movie and put everything together in hindsight.
So, this ending isn’t necessarily illogical, it’s just poorly executed. By the time the credits role, you’ll be left wondering why you were led on the charade that last for the first three-fourths of the movie. It could have been fifteen minutes long and produced the same effect.
