2. The Descent: Part 2 (2009)
The first movie gained a wide following as a result of its ambiguous ending and psychological undertones. In fact, many people question whether much of the action didn’t just take place in the head of the main character, a puzzle which continues to intrigue viewers.
Whatever the answer might have been for the first movie, the second movie carries on the tradition of bizarre endings. The second movie has a plot that is almost identical to the first movie and an ending that is far more confusing and illogical.
At the end, the protagonist is thrown back into the cave he has just crawled out of by a man who had had no role in the movie up to that point. It leaves audiences wondering who the person was and why he would do such a thing. No one has an answer at this point, but most people felt the ending was a disappointment.
Sometimes writers forget that fiction is most satisfying when all of the loose ends are tied up and this ending leaves a massive loose end. In fact, it has been said that fiction is often held to a higher standard of logic than real life. “The Descent: Part 2” seems to have forgotten that piece of advice. Either that, or they fully intend to make a third movie to explain the inconsistencies of the second.
