3. Arthur Ashe
As the first black man to win in singles at Wimbledon and the US Open, Ashe rose to fame and cemented his name into sports history.
A few years later he shocked the world when he revealed that he was HIV positive in 1992. It is believed that the tennis player contracted the disease in the 1980s, during a blood transfusion.
After his revelation, Ashe began working to help everyone who had the disease. He died in February 1993.
