6. Rob Ford

Toronto Mayor Rob Ford was diagnosed with a rare type of abdominal cancer in September 2014 and had to withdraw from the Toronto mayoral election this fall.

Since then, he has been undergoing chemotherapy, but the doctors are reluctant when it comes to making any prognoses due to the rarity of his tumor.

When it was initially diagnosed, the tumor was 5 inches long and inoperable. After several batches of chemo, it has shrunk down to 2.5 inches, and the doctors are now considering surgery. Ford will have to undergo radiation after chemo, so his battle with cancer is ongoing.

Mayor Ford made headlines when he publically admitted he smoked cracked cocaine after a video of him in a drunken stupor was leaked to the media. He later entered a rehab facility in Ontario where he spent several weeks in treatment for alcohol.
